ShelfSignal summarizes public LC G63 guidance and compares the result with a shelflist you provide. It does not contain the copyrighted 1969 Swanson–Swift Cutter-Sanborn table, OCLC’s four-figure table, Dewey schedules, or a full Library of Congress classification schedule.
What it can do
It can normalize a filing term, propose a conservative initial letter-and-number pattern, sort local shelfmarks, flag exact collisions, show nearby records, and format a simple label. Every result requires professional review.
What it cannot do
It cannot choose a subject class, construct a complete LCC call number, determine literary author tables, apply every translation or biography rule, or guarantee the filing order of a specific ILS. Local cataloging policy always wins.
